Room Scan

Have you ever seen an app that you know is awesome but you are stumped on how you would use it education?  That app for me is RoomScan.  The premise behind RoomScan is that you hold your phone against a wall it registers the location then you move to the next wall.  As this is going on it is mapping your room on the phone while taking coordinates.  I am not sure how it figures out the length of the walls but it does.  I tried this out last night in a small room in my apartment and the drawing was pretty accurate in terms of square footage for the room.  There is a free version and a paid version of the app.  The paid version is $4.99 and allows you to add windows and doors.
My thought on how you could use this in a school setting would be for units that have to deal with measurement.  You introduce an item such as a ruler and yard stick then you could move on to tape measures, laser devices and then the app.  Which is the most accurate and why?
The app is for iOS devices only.  I found out about the app through this Lifehacker article.
